Current Performance

The data from the pilot photovoltaic power plant is transmitted 4 times daily. The data processing is done automatically by SMA (producer of the plant components and operator of the Web site www.sunnyportal.de). The diagrams are adopted from the portal. Temporarily it may come to delayed information. In this case it is necessary to refresh the page.

Special weather conditions

The diagram shows measured solar radiation pro plant square meter in Watt in relation to the sun´s movement throughout the day. Currently on sunny, unclouded days a maximum of 1200 Watt is reached on midday. The steady curve progression with a frequent reach of the maximal value of 1200 Watt denotes the special weather conditions for the usage of photovoltaic systems in the Atacama region.

Progressive fill-up of energy reserves

The available energy in a sunny day will not be fully used by the living unit. To take advantage of this, batteries integrated into the system will we fully charged during the day. A network generator will be in charge of distributing energy needs between the living unit and the energy storage. Negative Watt values denote a charging of the batteries. Positive Watt values denote that the stored energy is being used by the living unit between sunrise and sunset. The curve shows that during the day reserves can always be stored.

Energy supply surplus

The inverter module converts the direct current from the photocells into alternating current if required by the system. The adjacent curve shows power values of the inverter module in Watt. The curve shows how much of the daily energy supply can be used by the living unit system. It is often the case that before reaching the midday maximum, the converter will start regulating the power from the sun´s irradiated energy, because the system is already nearly saturated. Unused energy excess will be wasted.

Well-filled batteries

The adjacent diagram shows the storage state of the living unit´s batteries in percentage. The maximum value varies because of an integrated intelligent system, by which the energy storage will only be used by the living unit during night time. The fact that the storage levels do not fall below 70% indicates that the system could provide energy for a second living unit.
